CPanel Contact Information

GCom Internet provides hosting clients with a CPanel interface to simplify the administration of each standard hosted domain, and to allow clients to independently manage most aspects of their hosting environment.

From time to time, CPanel will need to contact clients to advise of possible problems which have been detected within their server configurations. Such problems typically relate to low disk space or other issues caused by incorrectly configured options. These communications will be directed to the user-configured value stored within CPanel's Contact Information field.

For CPanel to be able to efficiently communicate with the domain administrator, it is essential that CPanel's Contact Information is kept up to date at all times.

Important items related to CPanel's Contact Information include...

CPanel's Contact Information Should be Off-Server

CPanel's Contact Information for each hosted domain should ideally not be dependent upon the hosted domain itself. The email address should be an independent entity so that communication channels will remain active even in situations such as CPanel advising that the on-server mailboxes are full.

If a client's domain is "mydomain.com", then "owner@mydomain.com" is not a sensible choice for CPanel's Contact Information.

Typically a client would use an ISP provided email address as CPanel's Contact Information. Alternatively, another excellent option is to create an off-server address via a free service such as Google's Gmail.

To modify CPanel's Contact Information for your domain...

Connect to the Internet.

Open your preferred web browser.

Using your administrative user name and password as provided in your original "Welcome Aboard" email, login to your hosting control panel at...

CPanel's Contact Information is Unrelated to the ABC

It is important not to confuse CPanel's Contact Information value stored in each hosted domain's CPanel interface with the Administrative and Billing Contact (ABC) retained by GCom Internet. One single ABC exists per client account, whereas a separate and unique email address may be entered by the client into CPanel's Contact Information field for each hosted domain.

It is extremely important to ensure that the Administrative and Billing Contact is always up to date, although it serves a very different purpose to CPanel's Contact Information as discussed in this knowledge base article.
