Australian Network Expansion - 15th December - 4th Februrary

During the period from 15th December, 2011 through to 7th February, 2012, we will be bringing online a group of new servers within our network in the Over the Wire data center. These servers are all IBM Quad Core Xeon based systems, each with a minimum of 16GB RAM and 4TB of disk storage. They are being installed solely to handle the expansion of our web and email hosting operations.

The resources we've allocated to these new servers are quite massive by Australian standards, and during the installation we'll be upgrading all our Australian direct and reseller client hosting plan resource allocations. All existing Australian hosted clients will have their account resources upgraded with no fee increase.

In completing the upgrade, a huge amount of data will need to be transferred between live servers. The data is scheduled to be moved server by server in multiple stages. Each domain's SOA Minimum TTL will be reduced to 5 minutes immediately prior to the move, and increased again after the move has been verified to be successful.

Interruption for clients should be minimal to nil.

Softaculous Premium Software Installer - October - December

This item affects only clients using GCom's Australian hosting services. This does not affect GCom's Australian ISP access clients.

Over the months of October through to December, we will be replacing all installations of Fantastico Deluxe on our hosting servers with Softaculous Premium.

GCom Internet has held licenses for Fantastico for many years and has installed the product on all our public hosting servers for client convenience. However, we now feel that the newer Softaculous Premium software installer is simply a better product with respect to volume of packages, product support, active development and security.

We will be licensing Softaculous Premium over all our servers and will be installing the package server by server over the next few months as existing Fantastico licenses expire.
