Access and Email Configuration Software

The software provided below has been created to automate the process of creating a dialup connection and configuring an email account to work with the GCom Internet service. All of these programs are included on the GCom Internet Software Pack CD along with several hundred megabytes of additonal utility software.

Each of the programs fills a particular need, and which one you download and run depends on your particular requirements. The table below summarises the features of each program, but a more detailed description of the correct use of the software appears after the table.

All software is provided "as is" and without warranty either expressed or implied, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, GCom Internet will not be liable for any damage that you may incur as a result of using the software. You should always backup any important system and data files before running or installing any new software.

Using the Software

Before running any of the above software, install an up-to-date antivirus program and scan your system for existing viruses.

If you have any reason to believe that your system is infected with adware, spyware or general trojans, we also suggest that you install antitrojan software and then scan your system.

When you are confident that your system is clean, install the latest browser and email program available for your operating system.

Our internet configuration routines have the highest level of functionality when Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are the default web and email clients, but they also perform well with Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox, Outlook, Windows Mail, Eudora and Thunderbird installations.

If you are running a Windows XP system, it would be wise to ensure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.

When your system is clean and stable, and your web and email software is up-to-date, download and run gcomsetup.exe. This program will create a dialup connection and configure your web browser and email program. Please have your original Windows installation CD handy in case additional files are required during the configuration.

If you have ordered additional GCom email addresses, you will need to run either gcomemail.exe or gcomidentity.exe for each additional GCom email address. The difference between these two programs is simply that the former will configure all email addresses within the one identity of your mail program, whereas the latter will create a separate identity for each email address. However, the program's ability to create separate identities for your email addresses is limited to Outlook Express installations only.

We have also provided the gcomdialup.exe routine which can be used to rebuild your GCom dialup connection at any time. This program will recreate your dialup networking connection to GCom Internet, and reconfigure your browser to dial via that connection. You can run the routine whenever you think your connection may have become corrupted. The program will not create or recreate any email addresses.
